  • Pshew! What a challenge! This was a first for me only four colours and no white. For this watercolour painting i used a bit of masking fluid and a lot of lifting off technique... thanks to Arches 300gsm paper! I managed to get violets, greens, browns, dark almost black and the bright oranges of the naartjie. I decided to use the two different yellows so that i could get the right lemony yellow shades of the lemons and the orange shades of the pineapple and the orange at the top, the greeny yellowy shades of the grapes and the almost reddish orange shades of the cut open naartjie on the right. It took some careful planning and was difficult at first but in the end i really enjoyed seeing what colours i could mix from just the four and will try some more "only four or less" with no white colour paintings in the near future so thank you for inspring me!
