What drew me to this subject was not only the flower itself, but the way sunlight filtered through the leaves. The contrast between soft, scattered light and bright highlights which creates moments of focus and mystery. I wanted the viewers eye to move through the painting, discovering shapes and details as they merge from the shadows. Significantly, Light being a ‘powerful’ metaphor for Life was an impetus for the painting.
