Inge Semple
I am a fifth generation teacher who has taught beginners, intermediates and advanced artists for 36 years. I graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA Fine Art and Education degree in 1985.
I currently teach 18 week semester drawing and watercolour courses, private art mentoring and shorter workshops from my home studio in Newlands, Cape Town, and in private spaces in the Western Cape. I teach in situ and online. I have a special interest in drawing and painting as the old masters worked, particularly in thin layers, and in realist and impressionist watercolour and oils, and am proficient in both of these media and drawing media. I really enjoy charcoal and have experimented successfully in combining it with watercolour in differing quantities, and also painting with charcoal dust. I am passionate about helping my students discover their own style and voice. This takes time. I run classes where no term is ever the same, as I am constantly researching new ways of presenting familiar material, as well as new material to augment what I know.
At present I am working towards my 5th solo exhibition.
