My Daily Bread

'My Daily Bread' was done en plein air on the banks (in the backseat of a Subaru) of Sunset Dam in the Kruger National Park. Using the medium Liquid Charcoal as watercolour, the aim was to capture the heron eyeing out his meal for the day, his 'daily bread', his hope. The graininess of the liquid charcoal gives the feeling of the sandy shore of the dam adding to the overall effect of the moment. Keeping to monotone helped me focus on this too. No distractions, just the heron, I and maybe a fish or two....and a few hippos.
