Seagull at Sunset

I saw this Seagull on a free references page on Facebook and absolutely loved how the photographer captured the play of light reflecting off the seagull, but also shining through the finer feathers of its wings. I thought of recreating it in Acrylics originally, however I was gifted my first set of watercolors around the same time I saw this photo, so I thought it would be a good time to test my hand at watercolor. You can see my errors so clearly, but I love how vibrant it came out. Ever since I mentioned my interest in watercolor, I've been told by family members that watercolors look so washed out and dull. So, I definitely set out to prove to those critiques that watercolors can be just as bright and appealing as any other medium.
