This is a watercolor painting depicting the usual setup of a Filipino home during the Philippines’ earlier years. The batalan was an open area of the kitchen wherein everyday dinnerware were washed and air-dried. Water was stored inside the tapayan, a big clay jar that keeps the water cool. Without electricity, only the sunlight or the moonlight coming from the big wooden windows kept the kitchen of homes lighted for people to go about preparing their food and water.
This painting was made using Daniel Smith watercolors, Escoda brushes, and Arches rough watercolor paper.
